15Nov24: Completed the first half of v.5 of the Hainhofer lutebook, consisting entirely of many passamezzos and galliards, many probably by Nicoló Legname, Hainhofer’s lute teacher. These tend to be quite simple, perhaps didactic. The passamezzos by Bésard are more complicated and virtuosic. All are meticulously given right hand fingering. However, the fingerings are often rather odd, in my opinion. My editorial policy, however, has always been to leave right hand fingerings untouched even if they are not the ones I would use.
